Twenty-year old Ben Hurst of Oakville, Ontario has taken the points lead of the Toyo Tires Formula 1600 Series Ontario Championship following a solid results weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
“It was a great weekend overall, we had good results despite the tough competition and a variety of weather conditions. In the end, we came away from the weekend with the points lead in the Ontario championship which is great but there’s still lots of racing left in the season.”
Hurst crossed the line in P2 during the first race despite the tricky wet track conditions. Hurst has always found that the wet is a strength of his and this weekend it brought him his best result.
Hurst finished P9 in the second race of the weekend on Sunday morning. After a hard charge through the pack, an incident with another driver in corner two left him finishing just inside the top ten.
In the final race of the weekend, Hurst crossed the line in P4 after having managed to hang on to the lead pack throughout the race.
Hurst wishes to thank his team, Brian Graham Racing, his mechanic, Paul, and his engineer, Cyril, for a great weekend. He also wants to thank Form and Function Fitness Centre for helping him to train and prepare for the weekend.
Hurst returns to the track the weekend of July 7th and 8th at Shannonville Motorsport Park for the third round of the Toyo Tires F1600 Series Ontario Championship.
Hurst is the Toyo Tires Formula 1600 Championship Rookie of the Year from 2015, BARC’s Best New Driver of 2015, a Team Canada Scholarship 2016 nominee and a member of Pinty’s National Hot List of Drivers to watch in 2017. Hurst is proud to represent Form and Function Fitness Centre and Braidan Tire.
