Six BRDC British F3 teams were in action at Donington Park today (6 March) as pre-season preparations ramped up ahead of the official media day on Thursday.

A total of 15 drivers took to the track today, with leading times reported in the 1m24.8s bracket. The day started with damp conditions but the track dried quickly, with drivers able to push harder in the afternoon.

Commenting on the test, Lanan Racing’s new recruit Kush Maini said: “It’s been a really good day with lots of positives. The car has been faultless and I’ve got some really good lap times in which I am happy about, and more importantly than the lap times, we were consistent on every lap which is even better as that is what will win you the race. It’s looking very good ahead of the media day. I’m coming into this season knowing that this is where I need to prove myself and I’ve been working really hard to be as complete a driver as I can.”

Jamie Chadwick, returning to the championship this year with Douglas Motorsport said: “It’s been really good, Donington is one of my favourite circuits in the F3 car. We don’t normally get to come here until the very end of the season but it’s always good to get out on a test day like this. It’s early days in terms of my time at Douglas but every bit of seat time I’m really enjoying and we’ve finished off quite quick as well so I’m really happy. I’ve settled into the team really well and I feel I’ve picked up from where I left off last year which is really important.”

Hillspeed’s Canadian driver Ben Hurst added: “It’s been really productive, we put a new engine into one of the cars today so I’ve been testing that out for the team this morning in the wet and then got back to my car to learn the track afterwards. This track is incredible fun and I love it. We’ve had plenty of test days so far and I’m still getting used to it as it’s a big step up from Formula Ford in Canada, but I love it and preparations are going really well. This is the first time I’ve been on track with lots of other F3 cars, we’ve compared well so I’m really happy.”

Other teams in action included 2017 champions Carlin, 2016 winners Double R Racing, and Fortec Motorsports.

The field is back in action on Thursday for the official media day for both the British GT and BRDC British F3 Championships.
